ABA therapy focuses on replacing dangerous and inappropriate behaviours with socially significant and more acceptable behaviour for children and adolescents with various neurological disorders. I develop individualized treatment plans based off of comprehensive assessments, while collaborating with other professionals to create a holistic plan to help improve the life of your child. ABA is not only for neurological disorders, this type of therapy is also used to treat mental health disorders such as tic disorders to help replace tics with alternative behaviours, anxiety, depression, OCD, and aggression.
During the initial visit, also know as a consultation, the parents and child will see the therapist. Here, the therapist will observe the child, ask questions and understand more of the parent’s concerns. If the parents agree with treatment, an assessment is chosen and conducted based on the child’s diagnosis and behavior. A treatment plan is developed and then 1:1 sessions begin with the child to work through the treatment plan. Progress is measured every 3 months with the parents. Therapy goes on until goals have been met, behaviors have improved or if the parents decide to stop therapy with the support and recommendations of the therapist.
